Schools (K-12)
Welcome to the Esri Canada Schools and Libraries Program Web site!
This site has been designed as a resource for educators using GIS in their classrooms. GIS is a computer-based tool that uses the power of geography to pose and answer questions by arranging and displaying data about places on the planet in a variety of ways: maps, charts and tables.
Geographic inquiry and GIS are important in assisting educators, students and institutions to answer personal and community questions with local to global implications and to understand phenomena in our constantly changing world.
Better Students
GIS in the classroom helps foster critical thinking, problem solving and spatial awareness, which are much needed skills in today's workforce. It also promotes citizenship and community participation among young people and educators.
Better Schools
GIS in school administration improves planning and decision making in areas including student enrolment, demographic mapping, student transportation, school safety and community information access.
