GIS Across Disciplines
Thank you for joining the 2025 GIS in Education and Research Conference. We invited educators from K-12 to the university level, as well as school administrators, to explore an exciting opportunity to connect, collaborate, and innovate in education. This conference facilitated community building by sharing GIS teaching and research work among academics, students, and K-12 teachers.

Keynote - Community Geography: Why We Care What's Where
Dr. Jason Gilliland is Director of the Urban Development Program and a Professor in the Department of Geography & Environment at Western University, with cross-appointments in Paediatrics, Health Sciences, and Epidemiology & Biostatistics. He is also a Scientist with the Children’s Health Research Institute, London Health Sciences Centre Research Institute, and Lawson Research Institute, three of Canada’s leading hospital-based research institutes. With over 250 peer-reviewed publications, he is well-known for his research on healthy communities, particularly for the novel ways he applies geospatial methods for public health. He is also founding Director of the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEAL), an award-winning research and training centre which develops and connects highly skilled researchers to create, disseminate, and mobilize knowledge for making healthy, thriving communities.
