PLANNING & DESIGN

Session Overview

A geographic information system or GIS, complements building information management (BIM) by visually mapping and displaying the ground and features surrounding a site. By showing the interrelationship between a project and the land it will occupy, GIS reveals how a structure will interact with its environment.

BIM helps architects, engineers and construction companies (AECs) visualize in 3D the interior of structures. Professionals can therefore see on their screen what a structure will look like before construction. By combining GIS and BIM, visibility is achieved, productivity is increased and costs associated with unexpected site obstacles or late design changes are minimized.

Also, enhancements to 3D functionality in ArcGIS and its integration allows all project stakeholders to query and gain insight that adds value at every phase of the project’s lifecycle. These enhancements provide, among other things, new capabilities to establish digital twins of entire systems of connected assets and infrastructure thanks to location intelligence.

In this webinar, we will discuss the business problems that need to be resolved as well as the vision and the main drivers of the AEC digital transformation. We will then see design and engineering in a collaborative way using BIM-GIS integration and the technology in action.

Key Points

  • Learn about  BIM-GIS interactions
  • Discover how ArcGIS supports an AEC project’s lifecycle
  • Understand the digital twin concept

Intended Audience

This webinar is intended for professionals and decision makers of the AEC industry professionals, municipal organizations, town planners, infrastructure and land use planning project managers, CAD, BIM, Revit, 3D and GIS professionals who wish to give life to a more global vision of their infrastructures.
